Abstract

VoIP and IP VPN are likely to have a major impact on the architecture of the public network and the structure of the telecommunications industry. The architecture will need to be optimized for the preponderance of packet traffic rather than today’s TDM optimization. The industry structure will likely change due to both technology advances and the deterioration of the traditional business models based on voice revenue.
