Abstract

Service Providers are continually examining their metro optical networks to identify inefficiencies in bandwidth utilization, architecture, and protection schemes. Traditionally, the existing metro optical network was primarily architected for TDM-based services, but more recently has been adapted and modified to offer new services such as data and storage. The metro optical network must scale faster and more efficiently in order to accommodate the increase in capacity of TDM, data, and storage.
