Abstract

Driven by the spread of the Ethernet standard beyond the corporate local area network (LAN) to the core metropolitan and regional network; service providers, committed to keep capital and operational expenditures under tight control, seek to cost-effectively address this increasingly important market space. To do so, they must scrutinize all the attributes of their network operations - from start-up costs, to space and power, to simplified network management and scalable growth. The link between services and transport plays an important role in meeting this challenge.
