Abstract
Metal-doped fullerenes are known as novel acceptor molecules in organic photovoltaics. We present the first chemical modification of a divalent metallofullerene Yb@C80 by carbene addition. Spectroscopic and crystallographic data suggest that its electronic and electrochemical properties have been effectively altered upon chemical functionalization.
