Abstract
A state-of-the-art fiber-chirped-pulse-amplifier system based on coherent combination of 8 amplifier channels delivers 680 W of average power. Two-stage nonlinear compression of this high average power pulses in gas-filled capillaries yields 400 W, 30fs, >300µJ pulses and 220W, sub-7fs, 170 µJ pulses, respectively. This is the highest average power ever obtained for ultrashort and few-cycle pulses using a power-scalable technique. This laser source will open completely new opportunities in ultrafast strong field physics.
