Active linewidth narrowing of a mid-IR quantum cascade laser without optical frequency reference

Abstract

We present linewidth-narrowing of a 4.55-µm distributed-feedback quantum cascade laser without any optical reference, using the voltage fluctuations across its junction as error signal. A 10-fold reduction of the frequency-noise power spectral density is achieved.
