Abstract

Plasmonic waveguides are negative dielectric optical waveguides in waveguide theory. These are promising candidates of nano-optical waveguides beyond diffraction limit of light. We describe principles for guiding nano-sized optical beams in plasmonic waveguide from the viewpoint of low-dimensional optical waves and wavenumber surface. We review unique properties of plane (2D) and cylindrical (1D) types of plasmonic waveguides.
