High Speed Avalanche Photodiodes Beyond their Traditional Buildup Time

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Due to their buildup time, the use InGaAs avalanche photodiiodes has been limited to 10-Gbps optical receivers. We review a patented technique that combats the buildup time and reduces the BER by orders of magnitude.
