Fading Return Signals in Lidar Atmospheric Sensing

Abstract

We consider the role of both random media and target speckle in the lidar signal return for direct and heterodyne detection optical receivers. A statistical model is derived from the fundamental principles of atmospheric scattering and turbulent propagation.
