Performance analysis of optical free-space two-way time-frequency transfer

Abstract

Optical free-space time-frequency transfer could support precisions and accuracy well beyond microwave-based transfer. We discuss the potential performance and its limitations based on a recent demonstration over a 2-km link that achieved residual instability < 10−18.
