Abstract
Using a controlled Gaussian-Schell Model beam to mitigate turbulence effects has been suggested as a means to improve the statistics of the received signal in long-range free-space optical communications. Specifically we have shown in simulation that by using this transmission method it is possible to decrease the scintillation index in the far-field, regardless of turbulence strength, when compared to the intensity of a fully coherent source in turbulence.
