Thin-rod and thin-tapered-rod Yb:YAG laser amplifiers with high average power and pulse energy

Abstract

8mJ pulse energy is achieved in the thin-rod Yb:YAG laser amplifier at 1.5kHz repetition rate that is more than 3 times surpasses the previous record. Using thin tapered rods for further energy scaling is proposed.
