Photomechanical actuator of Ni-Ti shape memory alloy coated with a carbon composite

Abstract

We demonstrate continuous-wave laser triggering of the simple shape memory effect of a nickel-titanium alloy. The photomechanical actuator shows enhanced optical response owing to the use of a carbon composite photoresponsive coating.
