Theoretical study of iridescence in the jewel beetle (Coloptera Buprestidae)

Abstract

We investigated iridescence of the jewel beetle (Coloptera Buprestidae). We obtained FIB images of the internal structure of Elytron beetle and we modeled the structure as a photonic crystal. Through the scattering matrix method the average reflectivity of the structure is estimated.
