Application of Mid-IR VECSEL in Life Sciences: Highly Specific Acetone Analysis in Human Breath

Abstract

A broadly tunable VECSEL emitting at 3.38 µm is deployed in a laser spectroscopic setup to measure acetone in human breath. A detection limit of 14 ppb is demonstrated in humidified synthetic breath-like gas matrix.
