Fano resonances in i-shaped gold dimers

Abstract

The Fano resonance in plasmonic nanostructures has been investigated in the last decade both theoretically and experimentally. Among various structures proposed, the i-shaped gold dimer rod structures as shown in Figure 1(a) are simple and therefore a good system to investigate the mechanism of the Fano resonance [1]. In spite of many theoretical works made for the i-shaped structures, there are no experimental reports on the structures, to our knowledge. This is because the gap between the rods must be controlled less than 10 nm to create the excellent Fano resonance, while structural limitation for the other Fano structures, such as Π-shaped gold trimers, are much tolerant.
