Abstract

For the high data transfer rate of optical disk, the rotational speed is increased over 15,000 rpm and the airflow between the rotating disk and rigid wall has become more and more important for the identification of the dynamic characteristics in case of the slim optical disk drive. Thus this airflow is simulated and considered for the modal analysis of the rotating disk via analytical method and finite element method. In addition, the natural frequency variation of the primary mode and the rigid body mode are observed. The calculated dynamic characteristics of the rotating disk based on the numerical model are available for the prediction of the Non-repeatable runout (NRRO) for the servo controller design.
