Metalenses or diffractive lenses for imaging?

Abstract

There is currently an explosion of interest in the use of metalenses for imaging. We demonstrate via rigorous simulations and exemplary experiments that metalenses offer no advantage over appropriately designed diffractive lenses in most cases.
