Abstract
Two-photon nonlinearity (TPN) has been investigated in the context of realization of a quantum logic gate, where the cavity QED system has been considered to realize a sufficiently strong TPN. In 1995, a few-photon nonlinear process was demonstrated by using a two-level atom in a cavity [1]. Although a two-level atom exhibits the strongest nonlinearity for a two-photon incidence, it is not easy to realize a system including only one atom. Generally, the TPN declines as the atom number increases [2] if a simple saturation effect is a sole origin of the TPN. This situation is not favorable for the device implementation with solid-state materials. Therefore, in this contribution, we propose a new scheme of the TPN free from the above declination caused by the increase of the matter degrees of freedom.
