Abstract

An interest to the photoionization of highly-excited Rydberg atoms by blackbody radiation (BBR) has been renewed due to recent observations of spontaneous formation of ultracold plasma from dense samples of cold Rydberg atoms [1] and with its use as a convenient reference signal in the absolute measurements of collisional ionization rates [2].
