Abstract
Modulation of X-ray diffraction in crystals by a co-propagating wave of optical phonons excited by a fs-laser pulse is analysed. It is shown that as a result of high-order Raman scattering by phonons the output diffracted X-ray field is generated in the form of fs-transients with a time structure essentially shorter than the period of the excited vibration.
