Spontaneous emission lifetime of a single Ca+ ion in a high finesse optical cavity

Abstract

We measure the spontaneous emission lifetime of the D5/2 level of a single Ca+-ion by Pi-pulse excitation and quantum state detection. As the trapped ion is well localized we map the standing-wave cavity vacuum field.
