Resonant Optical Circuits Based on Coupling Between Whispering Gallery Modes in Dielectric Microresonators

Abstract

It is shown that coupled resonator optical waveguides made from long chains of polystyrene microspheres with 1% size dispersion possess resonant transmission properties due to optical tunneling between fundamental whispering-gallery modes with attenuation ~20dB/mm.
