Dynamics and stabilization of domain walls in optical parametric oscillators

Abstract

Much interest has been devoted recently to the formation of extended (patterns)1 and localized2 spatial structures in degenerate parametric downconversion in a cavity. In particular, robust solitonlike stripes have been predicted in the signal field of degenerate optical parametric oscillators (DOPOs).2 These stripes correspond to diffractive domain walls separating signal fields of opposite phases. It was suggested that one-dimensional domain walls can also be stable in two transverse dimensions, and evidence was presented via numerical simulations on a square grid with Neumann boundary conditions.2
