Abstract
Semiconductor micro-disk and micro-ring lasers have attracted a lot of research interest due to their desired properties of high spontaneous emission factor (β) and low lasing threshold [1-3]. However, because of their unusual emission properties, it is not clear how to determine their β and cavity Q factors directly from experimental data. In the present paper we develop a systematic method to estimate the β and Q factors from the measured lasing-power-versus-pumping-power curve and the measured lasing linewidth.
