Abstract

Following the successful performance of a prototype (C-I) which achieved a differential frequency resolution in the microhertz region, [I) a I square metre ring laser (C-II) is under construction at Carl Zeiss, Oberkochen, and is due for installation at Christchurch, New Zealand, in mid-1996. It is expected that this device will have very greatly increased stability against temperature- and pressure-induced frequency drifts and also very much lower quantum noise than C-I.
