Disappearance of chaos due to the carrier density dependent lifetime in injection modulated AIGaAs lasers

Abstract

Recently, period doubling and quasi-periodicity have been reported in passive mode-locked lasers (l]. These phenomena often accompany chaos and they are of interest in terms of knowing the nonlinear dynamics in lasers. For semiconductor lasers, the above phenomena have been already reported in injection-current modulation operations. However, they are mainly numerical examinations except for the pioneering work [2], detailed experimental examinations have been scarcely done to our knowledge. In connection with the above phenomena, we report here observations and examinations for the disappearance of chaos in an AIGaAs laser modulated at near the relaxation oscillation frequency.
