Abstract

In the hope of controlling light with light, the nonlinear refraction arising in second-harmonic generation, has recently attracted a great deal of interest [ 1 ], In a nonlinear quadratic medium, propagation of the electric field envelopes of a fundamental frequency (FF) and of its second harmonic (SH) component, obeys, in the scalar approximation [2]:
