Effect of diffraction suppression of absorption in nematochiral liquid crystals

Abstract

Diffraction suppression of absorption, that is analogous to the Borrmann’s effect for X-rays [1], is observed in nonlinear optical systems involving a liquid crystal (LC) and a dye under laser nanosecond pulse irradiation. Generally the suppression is exhibited under conditions when a laser beam comes to the overlapping region of the selective reflectance band of the nematochiral composition with the absorption band of the dye.
