Abstract
Band gaps in the energy spectrum of electrons cause many interesting effects in solid state physics, and there may be interesting devices that can be constructed using similar effects in atom optics. This paper describes a system that can produce gaps in the energy spectrum of a guided atom, and calculates its three dimensional energy spectrum [1].
