Quasi-phaseniatched optical parametric oscillators based on periodically poled lithium niobate

Abstract

Periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN), fabricated with electric-field poling using lightographically defined electrodes, has enabled the development of practical quasi-phasematched (QPM) optical parametric oscillators (OPOs).[1] The first QPM OPO was demonstrated in the summer of 1994.[2] The basic material fabrication techniques have been extended to processing of full 3- inch-diameter wafers, currently PPLN crystals up to 60-mm long are regularly fabricated in 0.5-mm-thick substrates with domain periods 15-30-μm necessary for IR interactions.
