Coherent population transfer among three states: full algebraic solution and the relevance of diabatic processes in transfer by delayed laser pulses

Abstract

We report closed-form expressions for off-resonant eigenvalues and normalised eigenvectors describing coherent population transfer in a three-state system. Similar expressions for the eigenvalues have been reported previously [1]; the eigenvector expressions are new. This work was undertaken to study the observed sensitivity of stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP) to two-photon resonance.
