Dispersion compensation schemes in nonlinear fibres for realistic laser diode pulses

Abstract

The effect of Group Velocity Dispersion (GVD) and Self Phase Modulation (SPM) has been considered by several authors to study the propagation of optical pulses in optical fibres. Most of them used Gaussian [1] or Supergaussian models to describe the optical pulses [1-3]. To our knowledge, one of the few works that uses the rate equations of the laser diode to generate the optical pulses is the one of Suzuki and Ozeki [4]. They studied the effect of GVD and SPM in dispersion shifted fibres.
