Intracavity loss estimation in an erbium fibre laser

Abstract

An extensive numerical model describing operation of Erbium doped fibre amplifiers has already been reported [1], but this model does not predict the behaviour of an Erbium fibre laser. Analytical results describing the output power [2], and oscillation wavelength [3] of an Erbium fibre laser have also been reported. Parameters necessary for these calculations include intracavity losses, pump power and fibre length. Here we report a model where some of the parameters can be determined from the experimental output characteristics of the laser.
