Stabilization of mode-locked diode lasers by optical pulse injection induced harmonic synchronization

Abstract

The mode-locked laser diode (MLLD) is one of the most promising devices for future applications in ultrahigh-capacity optical communications. However, it is not easy to stabilize the optical pulse trains from MLLDs at a very high repetition rate. One reason is because the maximum speed of electronic systems is a few tens of gigahertz. Previously we proposed a novel technique which can make stable an MLLD repetition rate by injecting subharmonic-repetition-rate stabilized optical pulse trains [1].
