Abstract

The field of quantum state reconstruction has experienced remarkable growth since the first experimental measurement of the quantum state of light [1], Recent developments have made it possible to deduce the photon statistics of the electric field directly from the phase random quandrature probability distributions using balanced homodyne detection [2,3]. Another area of intense study in quantum optics is cavity QED [4], The presence of a cavity can strongly modify the behaviour of excitons in a semiconductor leading to normal mode coupling (NMC) [5], NMC is the exchange of energy between the light field and the exciton, and has been seen both in the time and frequency domain. We demonstrate, for the first time, the application of quantum state reconstruction techniques to measure time resolved photon statistics during NMC.
