Abstract
Narrow linewidths fiber lasers have applications in remote sensing and wavelength division multiplexed communications systems. Several different approaches of generating such light have been studied [1-5] including the development of long cavity length ring lasers [5], These lasers are susceptible to random longitudinal mode hops and it has recently been shown [6] that such mode hops can be eliminated by including a suitable etalon in the cavity. Here we shall outline two new forms of fiber etalon based on either 3×3 fused fiber couplers or chirped fiber grating pairs which can be used to control longitudinal mode hops.
