Electrodynamics of the propagation of intense ultrashort light pulses in metals

Abstract

The electric fields of intense ultrashort pulses in the visible range are now reaching the level of atomic fields, with pulse lengths equal to only a few field oscillation periods. For pulses with such properties the interaction of the field with the medium can be regarded as coherent and nonlinear.
