Abstract
We have numerically studied nonlinear wave propagation in photonic-band-gap materials. We combine an anisotropy in the linear index of refraction and nonlinear medium response and integrate the equations of motion for the field wave packet. We tune an incident pulse near the band edge of the structure, which consists of alternating dielectric layers of indices π1 and π2, both gradually increasing by an amount δij along the longitudinal coordinate.
