Abstract
The nonlinear phase distortion that arises from second-order processes in noncentro- symmetric crystals has been object of investigation since 1972.1 Recently, a renewed interest has been aroused,2-4 mainly in connection with its application for the self-compression of ultrashort pulses in the presence of positive group-velocity dispersion5 and for devices operating on the principle of the self-phase-modulation effect.4
