Abstract

It may be regarded as the most fundamental problem of quantum measurements to derive the complete information on the quantum state of a system from measured data. Two homodyne detection schemes, recently used to study phase properties of light,1 turn out to yield this complete information and may be regarded as fundamental measurement schemes.
