Abstract
Although the study of the optical properties of semiconductor superlattices is an area of considerable research, almost all of this work has considered rectangular superlattices. These are structures of alternating layers of two discrete compositions, representing the quantum well and barrier regions. However, a recently developed laser molecular beam epitaxy technique has allowed the fabrication of structures with essentially arbitrary compositional profiles.1
