Abstract

Recently, a new set of modified Bloch equations (MBE) has been derived for two-level atoms interacting with coherent radiation with near dipole-dipole interaction.1 It has been shown that for sufficiently large densities and oscillator strength several kinds of new and novel nonlinear effect occur, such as intrinsic optical bistability,1 large frequency chirps in pulse propagation,2 and modified ringing for superfluorescence.3
