Abstract

The nonlinear behavior of near band gap electron excitations in semiconductors is dominated by anharmonicities in exciton–exciton and exciton–photon interactions which depend critically on the dimensionality. Application, of a perpendicular magnetic field to quantum wells confines the quasi-2-D carriers into quasi-0-D states, producing a set of discrete magnetoexciton levels, modifying the oscillator strength of the excitons, and removing spin degeneracy. We report the first observation of femtosecond time-resolved optical nonlinearities in quasi-0-D magnetoexcitons at fields up to 12 T and at cryogenic temperature.
