Abstract

Recently, an incoherent photon echo technique has proved useful.1,2 We report subpicosecond multiple optical dephasing of a dye, rhodamine 800 (RH800), doped in polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) film measured with incoherent photon echoes. Our experimental apparatus consisted of a dye laser producing optical pulses with a duration of 8 ns at ~720 nm. The bandwidth of its output was typically 1.8 and 10.2 nm depending on the tuning element in the laser cavity, which corresponds to a time resolution of 0.3 ps and 70 fs, respectively.
