Phonon squeezing in pump and probe experiment

Abstract

It was earlier found that a sudden frequency change during a Franck-Condon transition leads to phonon squeezing.1 We show that phonon squeezing connected to the finiteness of the excitation pulse duration is a quite common effect in ultrashort laser pulse experiments, leading to drastic changes in the transient spectrum. We also investigate how the chirp and incoherence of the exciting pulse2 influence the resulting phonon state.
