Abstract

There has been considerable interest in the development of efficient short wavelength lasers in vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) and extreme ultraviolet (XUV) regimes; however, very few lasers in this spectral regime have actually been demonstrated. The ionic states of alkali halide molecules have an isoelectronic configuration to the well known rare gas halide excimers, and the scaling of the emission wavelength to the VUV spectral regime due to the highly ionized upper states is possible.1
