Abstract

The use of molecular clusters is proving to be an excellent medium for studying stepwise solvation.1-4 However, the existing body of work comprises steady state experiments.1-2 which are sensitive only to the equilibria of reactant and product. We report direct picosecond measurements of the rate constants for acid dissociation ka and geminate recombination ka as a function of solvent cluster size for the seeded cluster system phenol-(NH3)n (henceforth ROH • Mn).3
