Abstract

The high performances reached by atomic laser spectroscopy make it an attractive tool to optically explore surface physics. In particular, monitoring the reflection coefficient at an interface with a resonant vapor yields information on atoms located at distances ⩽ λ from the interface. In the principle, this should provide opportunities for probing long-range interaction between an atom and the wall.
