Formation and annihilation of B-excitons in CdSe

Abstract

The valence band of CdSe is split into an A (upper) and B (lower) band; thus the B- exciton ground state is degenerate with the continuum of the A excitons. The splitting of 25 MeV corresponds almost exactly to the LO phonon energy of 26 meV. Therefore, not only slow transitions from B to A with acoustical phonons, but also fast transitions with optical phonons, are possible.
